The camelbak is nice because I can send it out with anyone that goes riding, and they have everything right there.
I carry a lot of stuff. But it seems all the rides I've been on so far are at least 5 miles, (usually more like 15+ miles) from camp and there's not always people around, so I go prepared for anything I can think of. The chances of not needing stuff I have are high, but in the event I need it and don't have it, it's all worth it.
Emergency Kit Contents:
* 100 oz water
* a hip knife (in addition the Gerber hip knife I carry at all times)
* a utility tool
* elect tape
* several yards of nylong string
* a compass with magnifying glass
* a wind-up (no batteries) radio/Flashlight/signal becon
* a flint and steel
* matches
* cloth (usually a hand towel or other)
* a GPS
* a cell phone
* ziploc bags
The water sensitive stuff is in one of the ziploc bags.

where i found plenty of gadgets, none needing batteries!
I'm sure you could find this stuff plenty of other places, but the web really appeals to the lazy-shopper in me ;)
'course, now that i have all this cool stuff, i'll probably never need it. guess that's the point, right?
