The Formula One season reached Canada this weekend, where rivalries began to heat up and key battles we seen both at the front and the back of the pack. Schumacher continued to court controversy with his inimitable overtaking style while Hamilton and Alonso almost came to literal blows in the pit lane once again. An fight for track dominance between Sutil and Liuzzi seemed to demonstrate some sort of potential split in the Force India camp and the two drivers were having a nightmare through the whole race, both being lucky to find themselves finishing just inside the points.

Webber was unable to consolidate an almost huge lead he had opened up early on and he slipped into 5th. The two Brits at McLaren took first and second place, meaning that the Australian no.1 falls into 3rd, but only 6 points adrift of leader Hamilton on 109 and Button on 106. McLaren currently sit in 1st place then, ahead of Red Bull by 22 with 215 points.

The race continues in Valencia from 25th - 27th June...

F1 Canada Preview

Filed in archive F1 Racing on June 4, 2010

The F1 season continues in Montreal, Canada, the first of the races in the Americas, in six days time with the practice on Thursday 10th June. The run up to the Sunday Grand Prix promises to be the most tense of the practice days yet, and in order to ensure that the Red Bulls continue their dominance in Saturday qualifying Championship leader Mark Webber has issued calls for a united Red Bull. Rivalry between himself and team mate Sebastian Vettel meant the two drivers came to blows and span off the track on Lap 40. Vettel didn't finish, and Webber had to settle for third. Webber understands that to continue in this vein would throw away a championship push, something they can't afford to do with McLaren not far behind them.

At the bottom of the pack the race goes on as well, and Team Lotus, old legends of the sport who returned this season, continue the regeneration process. They have just performed a major coup to make things even more competitive between the teams at the bottom, and signed three of Force India's designers to help improve their car.

Red Bull Self-Sabotage

Filed in archive F1 Racing on May 31, 2010

Red Bull F1 shot themselves in the foot at the weekend's Grand Prix in Turkey. The lucky few who were fortunate enough to get the much sought-after tickets for the spectators' stands witnessed a moment that will go down in F1 history as the biggest example of self-sabotage since Renault signed Flavio Briatore as managing director in 2000.

Navigating the run-in to Turn 12 on Lap 40, Sebastian Vettel, who had been trailing his team-mate Mark Webber in first place, attempted an overtaking manoeuvre. Webber didn't give as the German moved to intimidate him off the racing line, and both went spinning off to allow the struggling McLarens to head to an eventual first and second finish.

Webber survived the collision and managed to finish in third place, but the implications for the constructors and even the championship race could be huge. Vettel was apologetic for the cameras, and made a show of shaking all the hands in the Red Bull garage, but now the two drivers are blaming each other for the monumental mistake. The governing body will most definitely find that it was Vettel at fault, but he may choose to hold it against his teammate who refused to budge from first place.

Webber currently leads the race by five points, an amount that may have been as much as 15 had he not literally been knocked out of first. The F1 season continues on 13th June in Montreal, Canada where it promises to be significantly more heated than it has been so far.

Tow In a Jeep, Pay More Fees? Under My Helmet

Seen that? - Tow In a Jeep, Pay More Fees?
Tow or Trailer Your Jeep in, Get Charged Double Some people tow or trailer their jeeps to the trail, dunes or where ever they're going. Most of these are registered for street use as well. If you're going someplace like the ISDRA where there are fees for "primary vehicles", but none for the off-road vehicles (aside from the vehicle's registration tag fees), and your off-road vehicle is street-legal, like a jeep, [...] Read More

Jeep Patriot Production Begins Under My Helmet

The all new 2007 Jeep Patriot started production this month. Sporting a 2.4L 4Cy DOHC 16V Dual Variable Valve Timing Engine, a 5-Speed Manual Transmission and Electronic Roll Mitigation, the Jeep's almost cheep-ish plastic interior leaves something to be desired. That seems to be the norm for Chrysler of late. It seems they've decided to try and make affordable vehicles and gotten away from the 'go anywhere' mantra they've had [...] Read More

Why People Buy Jeeps (2 videos) Under My Helmet

Jeeps have been around for a long time. They were developed for the military as capable off-road vehicles. They were later used for sport and recreation. There's a very large and profitable industry for Jeep accessories and modifications. There's a good reason for that. They're capable. They can go places most other vehicles can only dream of going. Even stock they are able to go places many most other 4x4's [...] Read More

List of Ill Repute carzz.org

Consumer Reports annual list of the 11 worst cars in America is out. Automotive analysts for the magazine took a look at more than 260 vehicles in this year's evaluation and once again SUVs made in the U.S. dominated the field. Surprisingly, two Toyotas hit rock bottom as well and Chrysler placed three models on the list of ill repute with the Jeep brand. . Here are the results for 2008, according [...] Read More

Jeep at the LA Auto Show Part Deux carzz.org

You guessed it -- more from the LA Auto Show: As much as I liked the Jeep Gladiator concept car -- I hated the Jeep Hurricane concept car. I saw pictures of it last year when it debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but this was my first chance to see it up close and personal. My verdict: Just another silly exercise that will never go into [...] Read More

Seen that? - MotoGP Rizla Suzuki 1 and 2 in Testing
Rizla SUZUKI MotoGP news story Earlier this month I talked about John Hopkins and Rizla suzuki making noise at testing in Malaysia. Looks like Suzuki is still strong after the break with John Hopkins and Chris Vermuelen running 1 and 2 in the first day back to testing. John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen powered their brand new Rizla Suzuki GSV-Rs to the first and second fastest times respectively during the first day [...] Read More

Rizla Suzuki's John Hopkins Making Noise for 2007 MotoGP Season Under My Helmet

Image courtesy Hopperracing.com After dominating testing in Sepang Malaysia, as well as very impressive rides in Jerez and Valencia on Suzuki's new GSV-R800, it looks like John Hopkins (Hopper) is finally coming of age in the MotoGP world. Colin Edwards, 2 time World Superbike Champion, got a look at Hopkins in Malaysia and thinks he's the one to watch for 2007."Hopper is the dark horse I'm telling you. If there [...] Read More

MotoGP: Hopkins Battles Pain, Finishes Just Off Podium At Qatar Under My Helmet

Rizla Suzuki's John Hopkins finishes 4th place in MotoGP 2007 season opener at Qatar, even with injuries. 2 months ago I predicted a strong season for John Hopkins, a guy from my neck of the woods here in this small southern California town. I became doubtful he would finish well (or even start) in this first race after his high speed get-off in Qatar a month ago. Even Hopkins was [...] Read More

A Century of Suzuki, Well Worth Celebrating Classical Drives

It isn't often that we automobile journalists recognise Japanese makes when writing about vintage automobiles. Probably because most Japanese manufacturers grew from unspectacular beginnings. No great art deco classics, no muscle cars, little participation in motor racing (Honda aside). To appreciate vintage Japanese cars one must therefore be willing to recognise their significance in the home country and not from a narrow European or North American perspective. Thus we honour Suzuki's [...] Read More

Dangers in New Drug Policy Eagle Par Birdie

There was more than a little confusion when European Tour players gathered this week for a meeting. The confusion surrounded some perceived discrepancies in the drug lists between the PGA and European PGA tours. Two of the players - Ian Poulter and Paul Casey - questioned why the PGA list contained three permissible drugs to treat erectile dysfunction while the European list allowed only one. [...] Read More
