The Dominick Effect Revisited
Filed in archive ATV Safety by Matt on November 27, 2007

The Dominick Effect has had more than it's share of exposure here at Under My Helmet. Here's the Reader's Digest version: The Dominick Effect is what you would call a movement. It came about when young Dominick was killed on an ATV that he shouldn't have been riding. Irresponsible actions by a family member and failure to abide by common safety practices caused the death.
I challenged Dominick's mom to put more accurate and honest content on her site, because while she insisted to me that she was not looking to take away the rights of my children to ride ATVs, she constantly called for just the opposite with the content on her web site.
I hadn't been back there in a while and wanted to get an update, so I checked it out this AM. There has been some changes that I'm happy to report; while she is still not showing what groups are doing to promote ATV safety, she has apparently removed the links to sites that seek an all out ban for kids on youth sized ATVs, and re-worded much of her content to be more honest and centric to the cause we are both working towards.
I seems she realizes that it's not up to her to decide if riding ATVs is OK for MY kids, but on the other hand, if she wants to try to educate me about their safety, I'm all for it!
Hell, I'll even help her inform others, so long as the effort stops before it gets to trying to decide my rights as a citizen.
