Did any of you know that when you buy a home you could be sending money to the green radicals who are trying to close your trails, trying to prevent your kids from riding ATVs, and any other number of things you might not want your money going for??
That's right. Developers and builders rolled over in lawsuits for the enviro-whackos and some of those settlements included Private Transfer Taxes.
These Private Transfer Taxes can be as high as 1.75% of the selling price of your home. For those of you that went to government schools, lets consider the sale of a $500,000 home in California. Pretty average figure:
So at $500,000.00 X 1.75% = $8,750.00 !!!
That's $8750.00 to your favorite green group that is then used to close off your public land!!!
Two things that help avoid this mess:
1: Check your title and deed documents and terms of sale very closely for any such language or fee imposing a on-governmental tax or mitigation fee. Ask for written proof and authorization of this tax by voter majority.
2. Contact your State Senator and ask them to support SB670. This Senate Bill will prohibit these "private taxes". Check the Calif. State website at www.ca.gov to see who your State Senator is and contact them.
Thanks to jce12g for the heads up
