Super Bike Racing's Andrew Wright Flees Country

In mid 2006, Andrew Wright, a former owner of Super Bike Racing, was convicted on smuggling charges for illegally bringing motorcycles into the country, re-labeling them and selling them even though they did not meet EPA and DOT standards. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison and ordered to pay $20,674 in damages to former customers.

The U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General said that Wright has been found "guilty by a federal jury in Valdosta, Georgia of multiple felony charges related to the importation and sale of grey market high-end motorcycles under false pretenses."

The website also said "Wright was convicted on all nine counts (smuggling, false statements, mail fraud, and wire fraud) of an indictment filed in June 2005…The investigation was conducted jointly with the EPA-OIG and DHS-ICE, with assistance from NHTSA, DHS Customs and border patrol, and the EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality."

According to WALB News in Georgia, Wright sent an email to the government and media outlets saying he "feared for his safety and well being, and removed himself from the country".
