Silverstone to be in F1 2010
Filed in archive F1 Racing on December 10, 2009
The news has come through, and its being called the deal that will save British racing. A little melodramatic surely, as the sport is as international as it has ever been. It’s no surprise, then, that it took a deal worth more than £184 million to entice Bernie Ecclestone and the rest of the F1 bosses back to Silverstone.

The contract begins in 2010 and goes on for 17 years. The calender for next year’s Championship will be released later in the week, and we expect to hear that the date at Silverstone will be 11th July (a date which, rather unfortunately, also happens to be the date of the World Cup Final next year in Johannesburg).
It’s deal worth a base payment of £12 million a year. One of the biggest stumbling blocks for agreeing on a location was the desire for a 7% rise every year, but this annual rise has been lowered in talks to 5%.
