Security Guard Guilty for Shotgun Death of ATV Rider

William Lee, of Mesa, Arizona, faces 4 to 8 years for the shotgun death of ATV driver Daniel Ashcroft in 2006. Lee used deadly force to protect an abandoned gravel mine. This isn't the first time Lee has shot at ATV riders, either. On two other occasions he was reported to fire shots at others, and neither incident was investigated by police.
Seems to me, using deadly force to protect an abandoned gravel mine by a rent-a-cop who is already on record shooting at ATVers is a felony offense that should be dealt with as attempted murder
, or at least manslaughter. Instead, the judge is encouraging the jury to consider a lesser charge of negligent homicide, a Class Four felony.Image courtesy zwire.com
