Riding ATVs Less Dangerous than Other Recreational Activities?
Filed in archive News on May 23, 2007
Lets file this in the "News They Didn't Want You To Hear" column... A few years ago, the CPSC (Consumer product safety Commission) released a report that stated something to the effect that you are less likely to get hurt riding an ATV than you are riding a bicycle, playing basketball, football or baseball.
In fact, riding ATVs is safer than most recreational activities, according to the CSPC's study of nearly 100 hospitals, including children's hospitals, using the national Electronic Injury Surveillance System.
Be sure to bring that up the next time someone tries to misinform you about how dangerous ATVs are.
This article is based on data I've collected from COHV, NEISS, NASD and MMWR, and while I am unable to find a side by side comparison, it seems fairly certain that the information here is accurate. If you have information to prove this data either way, please let me know.
