Earlier this year we took a trip to Gordon's Well. We brought Cz's gas quad with us, in the hopes he could get in some more practice in the sand. He hasn't ridden in sand too much on his own and we wanted to see how he'd progressed since the last trip in the sand.
We got there early Friday afternoon and started setting up camp. We planned on having 2 other rigs meet us out there later in the evening, so we sort of spread ourselves out to save room for the other rigs. Mom was pushing the gas quad over to the side to take up a little room, and snapped the handle-bars off just below the mounting plate where the handle bars Clamp on to the steering column.
As luck would have it, Cz's teachers son (5 years old) has a quad, and her husband, Big Mike, can weld. So it wasn't a total loss for Cz, he got to ride Michael's quad. He did pretty well, too. He and Michael took turns. On Cz's first turn, he got a little tutelage from Michael on how to operate things, then off he went; around the trailers, next to the hill that leads to the canal. Each time he went around, he got more confidant, and started working his way up the hill.
I was very pleased to see that he was coming at it at an angle. There's two reasons for that; one, to increase the likelihood of making it up the hill, and two, so as not be committed to going over once you get to the top (you never know whats over the top if you don't have a spotter). He showed natural instinct on the proper method to cross ridges.
