One of the most recent was the practice track at the Carlsbad Raceway which was closed in 2004 and replaced by a business park. It seems it's always about the money, not what people want.
Alex, a 7th grade motocross rider from Valley Center Middle School wrote a letter to the Valley Center Community Planning Group in an attempt to encourage them to build a small practice track near Valley Center. He included the signatures of about 20 other kids in an attempt to show interest in it.
Currently, Alex has to travel to the Amiga Motocross Sportspark in order to ride or practice, which is located on the La Jolla Indian reservation near the base of Palomar Mountain.
The problem will be getting past the environmentalists who will no doubt claim that a motocross track would be too detrimental to the fragile ecosystem in the area.
Pala Band of Mission Indians spokesman Doug Elmets said that they were "seriously considering" having a motocross facility on some of their trust land.
I dug up Doug's phone number and will consider calling him for more information.
