Protect your kids, but they have got to live life,
Filed in archive ATV , ATV Safety , Learning , News on March 11, 2008
Last weekend Brayton Hiland, 13, of lebanon, Indiana, was killed when the ATV he was driving flipped over on him in the snow as he was riding by himself in a ditch next to the road near his house. Brayton was found by a passing motorist who called for help.
Brayton started riding at the age of 3 and had a decade of riding experience. The quad he was riding was a Kawasaki 360 4x4. It's a fairly large, powerful machine.
Even with 10 years of riding experience, being alone on an ATV is a bad idea. You can't decide when an accident is going to happen. You can only prepare for it (safety equipment, and not riding alone) and ride in a manner to avoid it. (Investigators said the snow and ice were likely part of the reason the quad flipped)

Oh, how sad. I wonder if the ATV he was riding was age and size appropriate for him. It's so devastating that something so fun can turn into a nightmare for any parent.
