Last weekend Brayton Hiland, 13, of Lebanon, Indiana, was killed when the ATV he was driving flipped over on him in the snow as he was riding by himself in a ditch next to the road near his house. Brayton was found by a passing motorist who called for help.

Brayton started riding at the age of 3 and had a decade of riding experience. The quad he was riding was a Kawasaki 360 4x4. It's a fairly large, powerful machine.

Even with 10 years of riding experience, being alone on an ATV is a bad idea. You can't decide when an accident is going to happen. You can only prepare for it (safety equipment, and not riding alone) and ride in a manner to avoid it. (Investigators said the snow and ice were likely part of the reason the quad flipped)
