Oregon Forest Officials Looking For ATVers Input

Stand up and be heard, Oregonians! Your ability to ride in Oregon's National Forest is about to be changed, and you can have a say in how. You've got an opportunity to state your opinion on where you will be able to ride in the future.

"The main thing we're requesting is information about places on our ranger district that people go with their off-highway vehicles," said Rod Stewart, public affairs officer for the Detroit Ranger District. "This is a preliminary phase, one in which we're asking the public to tell us places they currently use. They can look at the map, draw lines on it or put sticky notes on it, and we have a box in which they can put comments."

Rod Stweart? I love this job! Some of the names I find are priceless. Anyway, you should contact the following:

SUBMITTALS: The Detroit Ranger Station is at HC73, Box 320 Mill City, OR 97360, telephone (503) 854-3366, FAX (503) 854-4239; Sweet Home Ranger Station, 4431 Highway 20, Sweet Home, OR 97386, telephone (541) 367-5168, FAX (541) 367-2367;

McKenzie River Ranger Station, 57600 McKenzie Highway, McKenzie Bridge, Ore. 97413, telephone (541) 822-3381, FAX (541) 822-7254; Middle Fork Ranger Station, 46375 Highway 58, Westfir, Ore. 97492, telephone (541) 782-2283, FAX (541) 782-5306; and the Willamette National Forest supervisor's office is at 211 East 7th Ave., Eugene, Ore., 97401, telephone (541) 225-6300.

SIUSLAW: Comments for Siuslaw National Forest can be submitted to forest planner Frank Davis at (541) 750 7077.

So far, response has been minimal for whatever reason. But the fact is that if more ATVers don't start letting them know where they want to ride, those places will likely not be included in the final plan due by Nov. 2009.
