Off-Road Racing

Just about everyone likes racing one way or another, either watching it, or racing themselves. I love both. I'm trying to teach my kids how to race, but it's not always easy. I don't usually watch NASCAR, so I'm not sure where Cz picks up some of his racing 'habits'.

The first time he did this, (I didn't catch it on film), I was on the john deere and Cz was on the red quad (gas engine), and we were coming out of the esses and lining up to go around Oak Bend, a tight right hander and the site of many mishaps including a horrific solo crash by Cz on his bicycle.

Cz was on the outside and slightly ahead of me coming in to the turn, and he slammed the door shut on me by cutting down towards the inside line, forcing me to head straight into the tree that sits just before the apex of Oak Bend. Luckily I had just got the brakes done on the John Deere and was able to stop in time, but it cost me the race.

This video shows only one of many occasions where Cz has attempted to cut me off. This time from the inside, it seemed particularly blatant and I wasn't having any of it. We were side by side coming out of the esses, headed for Oak Bend, when Cz seemed to go off-line a bit. Then he charged back in and clipped me.

I held my line and continued my charge around the outside. We stayed neck and neck, and I was able to pull a slight advantage coming up to the front straight and over the stripe to take the win. It was a close race, and Cz claims he had over-corrected trying to get back on line to avoid hitting the tree. I took his word for it, but I'll be watching out for it in the future.
