New Formula One Points System
Filed in archive F1 Racing on December 17, 2009
Seven years after the new points system last changed in the sport, the FIA are set to change the format of the Formula One World Championship yet again. Current champion Jenson Button has gone down on record as saying its a “great idea” that makes it more fair and rewards the efforts of the winner.

He went on to say, “it’s nice that you get five points over second for winning. That’s important because we all love winning races. I won six races this year and I got just two more points.”
Under the new system, the first ten drivers to finish a race will be awarded points;
10th - 1
9th - 2
8th - 3
7th - 5
6th - 6
5th - 8
4th - 10
3rd - 15
2nd - 20
1st - 25
Other drivers, such as Sebastain Vettel who this year found his way into the top three with four race wins, may find the competition a lot more challenging this coming season.
