Foriegn Companies To Run US Toll Roads
Privatization of US roadways has been gaining ground recently. Instead of using tax money to do repairs/maintenance on roads, toll roads are becoming more popular. Does that mean we will have taxes claimed to be for transportation removed? I highly doubt it.
It seems that privatization is going to be given largely to foreign companies. Why? I suppose because companies in other countries have more experience at governing toll roads. Big deal. In Indiana, a recent toll road deal to a foreign company, which was vastly un-popular with the people of Indian, was forced through.
What really gets me thinking is that many of the deals have what they call "noncompete clauses" that limit governments from expanding nearby roads. Many of the "deals" are for 75 years or more.
