Chatham, Canada Considers Lifting ATV Ban

There's a small fortune waiting…
Chatham-Kent (in Canada) will be re-considering the previous ban on ATVs using certain sections of the municipality. It's not because they think it's fair to the ATVers, it's because it's a potential treasure trove.
They're proposing a 1 year pilot program to determine if it's profitable, err, I mean manageable. People there are struggling as it is to find new sources of tourism dollars. If they decide to allow ATVs to use certain areas for sport and recreation, I'm pretty sure the dollars will start coming in.
What they really need to do is build an off road park. That would be a great hike for the local economies there.

I live in Alberta where “they” are rapidly closing the back roads where we take our ATV’s.
We have begun to go to Marysvale Utah where they treat us with respect and have many miles of trails (Piute trail etc) While staying at Charlies Rv in Marysvale last fall, the owner mentioned to us that the Marysvale, Salt lake City region generates about $4 million each season from us “Quadders” and ATVers who come from Canada. Hmmm. It takes up about 9 hours to get there from Northern Alberta, so we always plan to take a couple of days off around a long weekend. So with 5 days off, we get to spend three good solid days riding in that region. We spend a lot of money getting there, and a lot more on RV resorts, fuel, meals, and refreshments while we camp or stay in motels there. In November 2007 we spent just under 10,000 between us. Am I worried about spending money in the USA instead of Alberta? No way! if the government is so stupid that it wants to shut down recreational areas, we will just go somwhere that likes us. Heck, we would even come to Chatham if you make it interesting enough! Figure it out… We have 5 quads, at 14 grand each ( mud tires, winches, boxes, lift kits, hand warmers, etc) 250,000 Rv, and 20,000 trailer to haul them in. Gas money to travel to Chatham or Moab Utah is peanuts. Finding people who like us, and welcome us to play…Priceless.
