ATV casualties: Another Year of Errant Reporting

consumerreports talks about the recently released ATV Safety Report by the CPSC in which it clearly shows a steady decrease in ATV death rates over the last few years.
But that won't stop the likes of Consumer Reports from exaggerating the issue by only showing the number of deaths and not showing the staggering increases in the number of ATVs that are being ridden.

The number of ATVs in use has been going up by nearly 1 million every year for the last several years, yet the number of deaths is going down.

In 2004 there were 745 deaths, 666 in 2005 and 555 in 2006. All the while, the number of people riding is ever increasing.

How many of those statistics show life changing injuries from riding those ATV’s? I know people are riding them recklessly and getting hurt doing it. I am not dissing the use of the atv, but at least make people aware that there are some limitations to riding them and being safe.
