Area Medical Center to Give Free ATV Safety Seminar
Kelly Jo Evans from char-leston Area Medical Center is providing a free presentation for ATVs and how to avoid traumatic injuries through education.

As both of my regular readers here know, ATVs can be dangerous when ridden incorrectly. This seminar will teach people how to be safe by showing them the very basics like

*Riding an appropriate sized ATV for your size and skill level
*Not riding on pavement
*Not riding with passengers
*Always wearing a helmet

Those four basic steps can save your life. The first 3 can keep you from crashing. The last one can help save your life.

Without going in to hard numbers, from what I've seen in the last year, well over 85% of accidents I've read about have involved people riding irresponsibly, violating at least one (but usually more) of the no-no's listed above, and well over half of them stated that helmets were not being worn. (We don't know about the other half, but I'd be willing to bet most were not wearing one)
