Alaska ATVs Make Ruts on Trails

According to the Star Tribune,
Anchorage, Alaska-- All-terrain vehicle riders in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park have created huge, rutted mud holes stretching several miles along some of the most scenic land in the United States, according to conservation groups.
The Wilderness Society, the Alaska Center for the Environment and the National Parks Conservation Association filed a lawsuit last summer to protect the more than 13 million-acre park from recreational ATV users.
More legislation against OHV use. More of your tax money being used against you. More enviro-whackos trying to run your life. Are you tired of it yet?
They're going to do an environmental impact statement on the area to try to get ATVs banned outright. They say they issue 300 permits a year, that's a lot for, oh, 13,000,000 acres. I can see how those 300 ATVs could easily destroy that whole place in just a matter of, um... well, centuries I guess.
They are willing to compromise, though, by offering to leave a few trails open while they decide how best to close down the entire area.
